Society And Roles

While all the characters interpreted at the "tent city" are distinct individuals, these are general conventions regarding presentation of the characters that should be kept in mind. The following overview helps set the stage for interpreting the characters.

Townsfolk / Citizens - Little house on the prairie types. We need citizens shopping, playing, just walking about and doing the small things that give the site the appearance of a functional town.

Peddlers / Traders - Just what the name says. Anything sold / traded at a period authentic fur trade era (Rendezvous) encampment can be traded at this site. There is a 5% surcharge paid to Farmamerica on all goods sold, due the day of departure. The $15.00 camp donation still applies.

Tradesmen / Craftsmen - We include the "Demonstrators of Ancient Arts & Crafts" under this category. Demonstrators will exhibit their skills to the public in either an ongoing, hourly or "by- request" schedule. Products relating to your demonstration may be sold and are not included in the 5% surcharge due to Farmamerica. If no products are being sold, you are free to put out a "Poor Mans Cup" to collect donations for your skills.

Winnebago Camp - No, this is not a tin TP village. The Winnebago Indians set up a temporary camp near the Farm Settlement. They are close friends of the Farm family and typically set up near the settlements fenced in garden. We plan on using their camp as the site for presenting Indian culture. We ask that anyone with a Teepee to set their camp in the Winny "reservation", and please have a plausible story to go with your lodging style.

Special Note on clothing - The 1850’s was the decade of the sewing machine, clothing patterns and woman’s magazines! People on the frontier were almost as well dressed as their brethren on the East coast urban areas. Dress up fancy and show off a bit or wear what you would at a fur-trade era event. There will be NO stitch counting at this event!
